Description

The tank capacity of BioSonic UC100XD is 1.25 gallons and the external dimensions are 42 x 24.8 x 26.7 cm (16.5 x 9.5 x 10.5″). The housing and lid are made of plastic rather than the conventional metal design. The unit is drained from the side with a clearly marked lever located on the front. The lid is attached to the base and propped open for access. Optional features evaluated by consultants: Fifteen consultants tested the BioSonic UC100XD in routine daily use for a period of three months. This product received 90% clinical rating.
Equipment Features
Consultants were pleased with the multiple features of the BioSonic UC100XD. The size of the unit is appropriate for a low- to medium-volume or one-doctor office. The plastic lid/housing may have assisted n reducing the noise experienced during operation. The lid is easily propped open and is very convenient for placing and removing instruments. All assistants and hygienists indicated the unit is easy to drain. The effectiveness of cleaning smooth and serrated surfaces, blood removal, and cement from crowns was rated as excellent. The unit is easy to maintain and the touch pad is a nice feature. Dental assistants and hygienists who operated the unit on a daily basis would like more time options with lower minute settings (for example, five and 10 minutes). Also, a display of the time remaining would be useful. Since the 15-minute time option was used the most, it became stiff to press by the end of the evaluation period. The accessory pieces were fairly well received among the consultants. Many consultants prefer a basket design for holding individual sets of instruments over the UC70 instrument cassette which they found more time consuming. The 3/4- and full-size baskets are both useful and received high ratings. Several consultants commented that UC53 Beaker and positioning ring were excellent and were used most often for cleaning dentures and removing cement from crowns. Sixty-four percent of consultants reported that the BioSonic UC100XD was equivalent to or better than their current ultrasonic, while 50% would switch and 75% would recommend the BioSonic UC100XD to their colleagues.Editors’ Note: A larger version, BioSonic UC300, is available for use in offices with a larger volume of instruments to process as both a countertop or recessed unit.
