Consultants’ Comments

  • “All the characteristics in one bonding agent is amazing – it works!”
  • “Great for pediatric use because of fewer steps.”
  • “Single-dose units were awkward to use – they leaked and became sticky.”
  • “The applicator tips are too large.”

Description

iBOND is the first, true one-step self-etching bonding agent (7th-generation) for direct and indirect restorations, and it can be used with light- or dual-cured resin cements. It may also be used as a cavity sealer under amalgam restorations. It requires no etching, mixing or dentin priming and contains the active ingredient, glutaraldehyde, from Gluma Desensitizer. iBOND greatly simplifies the bonding procedure as it is not technique sensitive relative to a wet, moist or dry tooth surface, and it is compatible with halogen, LED and plasma arc lights. It contains an acetone/water solvent and requires an application of three successive coats followed by a 30-second wait prior to air drying to volatilize the solvent completely. Light-curing time is 20 seconds. iBOND is available in a 4-ml bottle or in 0.2-ml unit-dose units. Twenty-three consultants evaluated iBOND in 672 clinical applications. This product received a 92% clinical rating.

Product Features

iBOND is packaged with easy-to- follow, laminated instructions for both the bottle and unit-dose units. The highest rated features were the ease of application and the lack of technique sensitivity. The low viscosity of iBOND allows a uniform application, which covers the tooth surface with a glossy appearance to indicate good coverage of the adhesive. Lack of postoperative sensitivity was reported by a significant number of consultants. No bond failures were reported during the three-month evaluation period. Eighty-seven percent of consultants rated iBOND to be equivalent to or better than their current bonding agent and would both purchase and recommend it.

Clinical Tips

  • iBOND should be refrigerated when not in use, and the bottle should be tightly capped after use.
  • Do not use with self-cured composites.
  • Etching of uncut enamel and sclerotic dentin is required.
