Consultants’ Comments

  • “Rigidity is more like a regular metal scaler compared to what I have been using.”
  • “Columbia 13/14 U is a good, all-around instrument.”
  • “My hygienist liked the size of the tips. I found them large until they were sharpened a few times.”

Description

Implant Prophy + instruments are available in four well-known designs: Gracey curettes 5/6, 11/12, 13/14, and Columbia 13/14 U. They are molded in one piece from a polymer and have a high stiffness. The handles are cast in a familiar octagonal form. A raised dot on the shanks of the Gracey instruments allows visual orientation of the cutting edge of the blade to the tooth. Implant Prophy + instruments are a neutral gray and are very lightweight. The instruments and the synthetic abrasive sharpening stone provided are fully autoclavable. Twelve consultants evaluated Implant Prophy + instruments in over 100 prophylaxis procedures. Implant Prophy + instrument kit is highly recommended for the debridement of implant abutments or sensitive root surfaces without marring composite or ceramic restorations. It received a 94% clinical rating.

Product Features

Consultants found the similarity of Implant Prophy + instruments in size and design to traditional scaling and root planning curettes to be commendable. The rigidity of the tips and the light weight of each instrument are excellent. The sharpening stone is easy to use and readily restores a cutting edge to the instruments. The hardness and durability of Implant Prophy + instruments allow repeated use and sharpening. The variety of the designs allows instrumentation of all surfaces of implant anchors and teeth. Autoclaving does not appear to alter the physical properties of the polymer. There were no reports of any instruments breaking during the 4-month evaluation period. Seventy percent of consultants would purchase, and 64% would recommend Implant Prophy +.
