Description

Midwest eStylus is an electric handpiece system that must be integrated into the dental unit. It features fiber optics, auto-reverse and torque control. Recommended uses include restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic and prophy procedures. The brush micro-motor speed range is 1,500–40,000 rpm and is calibrated to the dental unit air pressure to provide the same speed/response to pedal pressure. The Midwest E-type handpiece attachments are:

  • 150-4,000 rpm endodontic contra-angle latch
  • 1,500-40,000 rpm contra-angle latch
  • 1,500-40,000 rpm straight
  • 7,500-200,000 rpm contra-angle and friction grip

The 1,500-40,000 rpm contra-angle offers the same four-port water spray and Fusion Optics as the 7,500-200,000 rpm attachments. Programming options include 12 custom settings plus an endodontic mode with four pre-set torque limits and flashing fiber optics to indicate auto-reverse. The wireless Midwest eStylus Controller displays true bur speed and battery life indicator. The color-coded pre-set speed buttons correspond to the color bands on the attachments. Eight consultants evaluated the Midwest eStylus over a six-month period.

Equipment Features

The Midwest eStylus Controller is portable and easy to use with a clear display. The color-coded buttons make changing attachments easy. The handpiece provides constant torque and bur speed, which produce efficient cutting. The ability to calibrate the control unit to the existing pneumatic foot pedal and the true bur speed indicator allow for both tactile and visual feedback of the Midwest eStylus. Illumination quality and the air/water output are excellent. The speed range, auto-reverse and torque control allow endodontic access opening and instrumentation of the canals with one handpiece. Consultants noted that the flashing fiber optics during auto-reverse provided an unobtrusive signal to the operator without disturbing the patient. The dimpled stainless steel micro-motor housing is comfortable to hold and is autoclavable. Seventy-five percent of consultants would switch to Midwest eStylus and 100% would recommend it.
