Description

NOVUS is a laboratory-processed resilient denture liner intended for long-term clinical use. It is a high-tech synthetic rubber with methyl methacrylate, which chemically bonds to denture base resins. The resilient nature of the liner provides a cushion to the soft tissue and is designed to improve clinical retention and function. It is also designed for ease of processing, finishing and polishing. The material is resistant to fungal growth. NOVUS liner can be added to an existing denture or included as a liner to a new denture. NOVUS may also be used in removable appliances against implant abutments and bars. NOVUS was evaluated by seven dentists and two lab technicians in 18 uses. It received an 83% clinical rating.

Product Features

NOVUS denture liner is slightly soft and patients found it to be very comfortable. Dentures relined with NOVUS fit well with good retention. The resiliency of the liner makes it possible to engage undercuts without discomfort. Consultants reported that NOVUS was easy to adjust with acrylic burs and polishers. The adhesion of NOVUS to the denture acrylic was inconsistent, with some cases of peeling and debonding before delivery. The color of NOVUS is bright pink, and consultants and patients all found it to have poor esthetics. Fifty-seven percent of consultants reported that the NOVUS was better than their current resilient denture liner and 14% reported it was equivalent. Fifty-seven percent would switch to NOVUS and 57% would recommend it. Both lab technicians would switch and recommend NOVUS.

Clinical Tips

  • Thin the acrylic to be relined as NOVUS is thick

  • Easy to adjust with Komet denture adjustment kit.

  • Use Yates & Bird separating sheets during packing to minimize sticking.
