Description
The Schick C2-Master Handpiece System is one in a series of C-Master universal laboratory handpieces. It is designed for cutting crown and bridge alloys as well as acrylic resin and chrome-cobalt denture alloys. The C2-Master is available in knee-control, foot-control and table-top versions; the table-top version was evaluated. The table-top version can be controlled directly from the console or with the included foot switch. The system offers a control unit with a large, built-in digital speed indicator, a dial to set the maximum speed, and a switch to change the direction of the bur rotation. Speed range is 1,000-50,000 rpm. To prevent overloading, the C2-Master has a progressive processor controller which constantly monitors the unit for overloading and a second thermal fuse independent of the computer to provide further protection. This unit is designed to run smoothly and minimize user fatigue. C2-Master was evaluated in six dental laboratories by 14 technicians. This handpiece received a 91% clinical rating.
Equipment Features
The Schick C2-Master table-top unit has a solid, sturdy feel with a simple design. Controls are simple and intuitive and include two switches, one dial and a digital speed indicator. The C2-Master laboratory handpiece was well liked for its high torque and quick release for changing burs as well as its smooth and quiet operation. The large-diameter, non-slip surface of the handpiece provides a comfortable grip. Some users of the C2-Master handpiece reported they would prefer a smaller, lighter version of the handpiece. The foot switch is light weight allowing it to be moved too easily; however, it does function well.
Clinical Tips
- This handpiece has a lot of power so use extra caution when using above 25,000 rpm.
