Description
Smartlite iQ is a portable, rechargeable LED light-curing unit. The light emitted is in the 450-475- nm range and is designed to cure the camphorquinone photo-initator found in most resin composites and resin cements. The Smartlite iQ handpiece measures slightly over 22.9-cm long (9 inches) and comes with an 8.5-mm diameter tapered light guide. An LCD display on the top of the handpiece shows curing mode, exposure times, and battery status. Curing cycles of 10-, 15-, 20-, 30-, or 40-seconds or continuous curing may be selected. Audible tones signal the start and end of each cycle. A fully charged battery can produce 600, 10-second curing cycles and can be recharged by docking it in the charging base for 30 minutes. An automatic “sleep” state commences after more than 10 minutes without activation. A radiometer in the charging base indicates the light intensity of the unit and whether it is functioning properly. Also, codes associate with device malfunctions, allowing for easier diagnosis and correction of problems. Seven consultants evaluated Smartlite iQ during a six-month evaluation period. This product received a 98% clinical rating.

DENTSPLY Caulk has recently introduced the Smartlite iQ2, which replaces the Smartlite iQ. The new unit has the same featherweight balance, ergonomics, and features as the previous one but with some improved design features.
