Consultants’ Comments
- “Great tear resistance.”
- “Vinyl polysiloxane is very accurate compared to many other matrix materials. Reseating impressions for provisional restoration formation requires careful trimming of interproximal and cervical areas.”
- “I really like this material for anterior provisional restorations.”
- “I prefer alginate which is easier to trim than a vinyl polysiloxane material.”
Description
TempSpan Clear Matrix Material is a colorless, vinyl polysiloxane (addition silicone) impression material designed to reproduce the fine detail of preoperative teeth and adjacent tissue for use in the fabrication of provisional restorations. When used with a clear impression tray, the transparency of TempSpan Clear Matrix Material allows dual- or light-cured provisional material to be light cured through the matrix. TempSpan Clear Matrix Material can also be used as a standard impression material. The working time is one minute and the setting time is two minutes. TempSpan Clear Matrix Material is available in 50-ml automix cartridges with four cartridges and 16 mixing tips in each kit. This evaluation was conducted by 20 consultants in over 260 procedures. This product received an 86% clinical rating.
Product Features
Consultants rated the packaging, ease of dispensing and viscosity of the TempSpan Clear Matrix Material as very good. The neutral taste and odor of the material are well received by patients. After tooth preparation and final impression taking, the preoperative impression is used as a matrix to create the provisional restoration. The clear matrix allows visual confirmation of complete seating, and the ability to use a dual-cured provisional material is a bonus. Consultants liked the flow of this material as well as the detail and consistency but reported that the cured impression could be challenging to trim, similar to other VPS materials. Consultants also found that the fine detail of the impression could be harder to see than when using a colored material. Thirty-eight percent of consultants would switch to TempSpan Clear Matrix Material, while 24% would recommend it to a colleague.
Clinical Tips
- This material works well with a triple-tray.
- Limiting the amount of material used will aid in re-seating.
