  • “Reliable and consistent results.”
  • “The working time is a little longer than my current alginate substitute, which made it easier to get a good impression without worrying about distortion due to pre-mature setting.”
  • “I got voids in some impressions. I think it is because the patient said it felt like it moved easily in the mouth.”
  • “The set-up time was slow compared to my alginate material.”

Description

Silginat is an A-silicone, VPS material that has:

  • Numerous indications
  • Low tear resistance
  • High dimensional stability
  • Thixotropic properties allow it to flow well under pressure

Clinical Tips

  • Use this material to fabricate a provisional crown or bridge stint and you can keep it on hand until the final restoration is seated in case you need to re-make the provisional.
  • Dispense the material with the tip pointing down into the tray and do not lift the tip from the material, to prevent bubbles.
  • Make sure to fill the tray completely to the top. The material does not flow much once placed intraorally like some other materials.

Unique Attributes

  • The low-tear resistance makes it a great option for situations where there are concerns about loose restorations or teeth that there is a possibility of inadvertently removing with the impression. Also, it is a good option around orthodontics where using a material too stiff could dislodge orthodontic brackets, wires, or buttons.
  • The high dimensional stability allows the impression to last for weeks, and it can be poured multiple times without the concern of distortion.

Indications

  • Anatomical impressions
  • Opposing jaw impressions
  • Orthodontic work
  • Models for case studies
  • Preparation of temporary crowns and bridges
  • Fabrication of models for the construction of splints

Description

Cavex ImpreSafe is a highly concentrated disinfectant for alginate, polyether and silicone impressions. The solution is aldehyde-free and has a neutral odor. The manufacturer states that Cavex ImpreSafe needs only three minutes to kill bacteria, fungi and viruses and has no negative effect on the impression surface. The system includes a disinfection container, one liter of disinfection fluid concentrate, shipping bags and a timer. Each liter of concentrate makes 33 liters of usable solution. Cavex ImpreSafe was evaluated by 24 consultants in over 800 uses. It received a 96% clinical rating.

Product Features

Cavex ImpreSafe is easy for dental staff to integrate into their daily workflow. The three-minute immersion time is faster than that of other immersion disinfectants, and the timer included with the kit encourages compliance with soaking for the recommended time. Consultants commented on the lack of residue after rinsing. Seventy-one percent of consultants reported that Cavex ImpreSafe was better than their current method of impression disinfection, 79% would switch to Cavex ImpreSafe and 67% would recommend it.

Clinical Tips

  • Rinse the impression before disinfection.
  • Replace the solution weekly or when it is visibly contaminated.
  • Keep track of how old the solution is – write date of preparation in pencil on the top.
KromaFaze Singles

KromaFaze Singles

Consultants’ Comments

  • “I like the standardization of powder/water ratios.”
  • “Water and powder combine well.”
  • “I had quality impressions with every use.”
  • “Very consistent results.”
  • “My staff was very pleased with this product.”

Description

KromaFaze Singles are single impression packages of dust-free, colorimetric alginate powder. The alginate is packaged in 18-g, sealed foil envelopes (6.4 x 15 cm), with an incorporated water measure. To use KromaFaze Singles, the clinician taps the powder to the bottom of the envelope and then cuts the package at the dotted line. The powder is placed into a mixing bowl and the top portion of the envelope is used to measure the water. Standard protocols are used for mixing. Mixing time is 30 seconds, working time is 1:45 and setting time is 2:30 from the start of mixing. Twenty-nine consultants used KromaFaze Singles 420 times during the evaluation period. This product received an 87% clinical rating.

Product Features

Consultants reported KromaFaze Singles were easily dispensed from the foil packages. The color change is a useful feature and the mix lacks bubbles, resulting in a good impression. The detail of the impressions and the resulting models was rated highly. Using scissors to open the foil pouch and measuring the quantity of water with one end of the envelope are easily accomplished and give good results. Overall, KromaFaze Singles was judged less messy than conventional alginate products. Participants reported that the setting time was appropriate and that the procedure consumed less time than their usual methods. Eighty-nine percent of consultants found the KromaFaze Singles equal to or better than their current alginate.

NX3 Nexus Third Generation

NX3 Nexus Third Generation

Consultants’ Comments

  • “Both cements have excellent viscosity.”
  • “The easiest cement on veneers we have ever used.”
  • “Very hard set even without using the light for the dual-cured cement.”
  • “I thought the light-cured cement was too thick.”
  • “The light-cured syringes seemed small.”
  • “Make this product with an angled tip adapter for placement.”

Description

NX3 Nexus Third Generation is a light- and dual-cured esthetic resin cement that is compatible with both total- and self-etch adhesives. It contains nano-fillers for improved handling and polishing properties. The choice of delivery system includes an auto-mix, a dual-cured cement (base/catalyst) and a single-syringe, light-cured (base) for cementation of multiple porcelain laminates. The auto-mixing dual-cured syringe can be used for all indirect cementations including laminates, inlays, onlays, crowns, bridges, posts, and office CAD/CAM-fabricated restorations. The amine-free initiator system provides color stability for both the light- and dual-cured cements for long-term esthetics. The water soluble try-in gels are matched to the light- and dual-cured cements. The manufacturer recommends Optibond Solo Plus and Optibond All-In-One adhesives with NX3. The kit contains one each of the following in shades of clear, white and yellow: 1.8-g light-cure syringes; 5-g dual-cured, auto-mix syringes; and 3-g syringes of try-in paste. The kit also includes a 5-ml bottle of silane, mixing tips and a laminated technique guide. Twenty-six consultants evaluated NX3 in 307 cementation procedures. This product received a 97% clinical rating.

Product Features

NX3 is packaged with a compact instruction manual and an excellent laminated instruction card, which has large, easy-to-follow illustrations. Ninety-five percent of the consultants responded that they prefer a resin cement kit containing both the light- and dual-cured cement. The delivery system for the light-cured and the auto-mix, dual-cured cement eliminates the need for mixing and allows placement of the cement directly into the restoration. The viscosity and shade selection of both cements work well for all types of restorations. Working and setting time were judged to be very good. Ease of excess cement removal before the final set, esthetics, and lack of postoperative sensitivity were rated as excellent. The cement is compatible with both total-etch and self-etch adhesives. One hundred percent of the consultants found NX3 to be equal to or better than the current resin cement they were using, and 100% would recommend it. Eighty-four percent would switch to NX3 Nexus Third Generation.

TempBond NE

TempBond NE

Consultants’ Comments

  • “Strong enough, yet easy to remove the temporary.”
  • “A little sticky and hard to clean off instruments and soft tissue.”
