This month we turn our attention to eco-friendly dentistry, a topic that is gaining momentum as patients and practices alike look for ways to make a positive impact. Dr. Ashton Prince, one of our Clinical Ambassadors, shares practical approaches to reducing environmental footprints while maintaining the highest level of care.
With more sustainable products available, clinicians can now make choices that benefit both patients and the planet. Digital workflows help cut down on impression and model waste, packaging is becoming more recyclable, and long-lasting restorative materials reduce the need for replacements. But what does sustainable really mean? In theory, it suggests being green. In practice, it should mean dependability. A sustainable choice must integrate smoothly into clinical routines, minimize waste and energy use, and still deliver consistent, predictable outcomes.

As the conversation around oral health continues to evolve, so do the needs and expectations of our patients. Increasingly, they’re looking beyond traditional dental care in search of answers that connect their mouths to their overall wellness. This issue highlights an approach that’s gaining momentum—one that blends diagnostics, material science, and personalized care into a more biologically mindful model.
You don’t have to overhaul your practice to appreciate the principles of biological dentistry. But understanding the “why” behind its rise can help us better support the patients who seek it, and decide when it’s time to partner with others who specialize in this care.
As always, we welcome your feedback. Reach out to us at connect@dentaladvisor.com or to me personally at drbunek@dentaladvisor.com.

- 817 Total Uses
- 91% Clinical Rating
Evaluators’ Comments
- “Excellent shade matching and no air bubbles.”
- “Patient perception of the shade match has been spectacular.”
- “It’s a solid flowable. Easy to place, doesn’t run or bubble.”
- “It was easier to control at the gingival margin in a Class II prep and had a very good viscosity without being overly hard to control.”
- “Opaque material may be needed to hide residual amalgam stain.”
- “Some shades are difficult to match.”
Description
CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal Super Low is a light-cure, radiopaque restorative material which provides accurate color matching, high polishability and excellent physical properties, making it ideal for both anterior and posterior restorations. The optimized translucency and light diffusion brings out the color of the surrounding tooth structure and diffuses light in a similar way to tooth structure – nor does it require an additional blocker or opaquer shade to achieve a chameleon effect. The composite exhibits excellent mechanical and aesthetic properties similar to conventional packable composite, which makes it possible to use it as a final restoration in the anterior and posterior regions.
Unique Attributes
- Ideal viscosity – non-slumping, self-levels, and has excellent handling
- Excellent shade matching
- Two shade system simplifies the procedure – Universal (U) and Universal Dark (UD)
- Strong mechanical properties allow it to be used in all cavity classifications
Clinical Tips
- Clinical Tips
- Bevel the enamel to hide the cavosurface margin and make the restoration disappear.
- Use the Universal (U) shade for most cases – the Universal Dark (UD) is effective for lower-value or darker shades.
- Keep the tip immersed in the material while expressing to avoid air bubbles.
- An opaque material may be needed to hide residual amalgam discoloration.
Indications
- Cementation of ceramic and composite inlays, onlays and veneers with less than 2 mm thickness
- Direct restorations for all cavity classes – anterior & posterior
- Cavity base / liner
- Aesthetic anterior restorations Intraoral repair of fractured restorations

Navigating the ever-growing landscape of dental ceramics requires more than just technical skill—it demands critical thinking and a commitment to evidence-based practice. In this article, Dr. Taiseer Sulaiman breaks down the evolution of ceramics with clarity, cutting through marketing noise to highlight what truly matters: the science behind material performance and long-term clinical outcomes. His insights offer a much-needed blueprint for clinicians who want to make informed, confident decisions in a category where esthetics, strength, and predictability don’t always align.

This month, we explore adhesion and bonding—one of the most common topics we’re asked about during lectures. Dr. Matthew Miller, one of our Clinical Ambassadors, breaks down the key criteria for successful adhesion and clears up common misconceptions.
With the rise of Universal Bonding, clinicians can choose between selective, total, or self-etch modes, and in some cases, even use bonding agents as primers. But what does “universal” truly mean? In theory, it suggests versatility—but in practice, it should mean reliability. A truly universal material should seamlessly adapt to any clinical scenario, providing strong, predictable results regardless of the substrate, preparation type, or bonding protocol. It should simplify decision-making without compromising success.
In this issue, we also highlight the importance of surface preparation and share insights from our Biomaterials lab, showcasing where different products excel. Lastly, we emphasize proper light-curing techniques, including beam collimation and using a fully functional curing light. I always enjoy hearing from our readers—your feedback and experiences help shape future discussions. Feel free to reach out anytime at connect@dentaladvisor.com.
