The future of dentistry is prevention. In an era defined by technological advancement, dentistry is experiencing one of its most exciting transformations yet: a decisive shift from reactive treatment toward proactive, preventive care. This issue is dedicated to that evolution, and I am proud to present a collection of products and articles that reflect the breadth of modern preventive dentistry.

43-01 | 2026 Top & Preferred Awards

Within this edition, you will find our Top, Research, and Preferred Product Awards. Each award recipient has presented products or materials that stand out because of their impressive functional and usability results in a real-world and testing environment and we are excited to pass along our findings.

These awards are influenced by our Clinical Evaluators from across North America and our incredible team of Clinical Ambassadors, under the leadership of Dr. Sabiha Bunek. These clinicians have personally put these innovative materials to use in their own offices to provide a non-biased report of their experiences. Their committed time to track, analyze, and report on these materials is the backbone to our process. We are extremely fortunate to work alongside such committed professionals who have a wide range of clinical specialties.

KATANA™ Cleaner

KATANA™ Cleaner

KATANA Cleaner has not been evaluated by Clinical Consultants of DENTAL ADVISOR. It was chosen as a 2026 Research Award winner by consensus of the Editors and DENTAL ADVISOR Research Team.

RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS:

KATANA Cleaner is a universal cleaner that includes an MDP salt which can be used on all restoratives and tooth structure to remove contamination which can impact bond integrity. Tested by DENTAL ADVISOR on saliva contaminated zirconia and lithium disilicate surfaces showed restoration of bond strength to optimal levels and virtually perfectly cleaned surfaces under SEM analysis. This is also one of the few products commercially available that can be used intraorally for ceramics repairs.

Evaluators’ Comments

  • “Great for patients that prefer non-gritty paste.”
  • “Not as sweet as normal paste, which most patients loved”
  • “The gel formula seems like it could be less sensitive to patients, especially with root exposure.”
  • “I love the toothpaste like dispenser, you don’t waste as much and you don’t have to fight ripping off the plastic like you do on the prophy cups.”
  • “It gets runny with saliva, and took more effort to rinse off. Has some splattering with getting runny. ”
  • “If I needed more I had to re-glove to not cross contaminate”
  • “I felt that it did not remove staining as well as my current paste. However, we use coarse paste, so it may be unfair to compare them.”

Description

Cavex ProphyPaste is a professional prophylaxis paste used to clean the tooth surface, facilitate the removal of all exogenous deposits, and to polish the hard tissue including restorations.

Unique Attributes

  • Spreads easily
  • Able to apply to whole quadrant, then polish
  • Less gritty feel to patients

Clinical Tips

  • Most kids enjoyed the flavor of the toothpaste. If lots of stain, best to add some pumice to the paste for additional grittiness.
  • Use suction while polishing to reduce splatter.
  • Need more paste than a unidose packet. Place more paste out than what is in a unidose packet.
  • Dry the mouth prior to placement.

Indications

  • Cleaning and polishing of tooth surfaces as part of professional dental prophylaxis procedures
  • Remove exogenous deposits, such as plaque and stains
  • Polish hard tissues, including natural enamel and restorative materials (e.g., crowns, bridges)

Description

EsFlow® PLUS Injectable is a light-cured flowable composite resin for direct restoratives. Using uniform nano fillers, it has enhanced physical strength and can be used even on occlusal surfaces. It is a high-viscosity flowable with low extrusion force, thixotropic behavior, excellent gloss retention, and no stringing. Available in a wide range of shades for direct restorative applications.

Unique Attributes

  • Excellent viscosity and stackability for a flowable composite
  • Outstanding shade match and chameleon effect for natural blending
  • Easy handling with smooth adaptation and minimal stickiness
  • Strong physical properties with good polish and gloss retention
  • Available in multiple shades with flexible tip options for precision placement

Clinical Tips

  • Check shade match on the adjacent tooth after light curing for accuracy.
  • Submerge the tip when dispensing to minimize air bubbles and voids.
  • Use smaller layers or increments to improve adaptation and curing depth.
  • Allow the material to settle before curing for a smoother surface finish.
  • Using a composite warmer can enhance flow when employing the “Snow Plow Technique.”

Indications

  • Class I-V direct restorations
  • Use as a base liner
  • Undercut fillings (flowing into undercuts)
  • Repair of composite or ceramic restorations
