Can I use Clearfil S3 BOND with a composite to open a patient’s vertical dimension?

Clearfil S³ BOND (Kuraray America) has high bond strength (>20 MPa) to prepared enamel and to uncut enamel that is etched with phosphoric acid or cleaned with pumice. An advantage of Clearfil S³ BOND is that it adheres well to metal and PFM crowns. Steps of a recommended technique to open the bite by 1 to 3 mm are:

• Roughen the surface of the restorations and affected teeth,
• Firmly rub the Clearfil S³ BOND into areas and light cure,
• Apply the composite to desired occlusal surfaces and light cure, and
• Adjust occlusion to desired vertical dimension.
