Description
Silgimix is an addition silicone alginate replacement material indicated for impressions for study models, orthodontic models, opposing models, partial and complete dentures, and temporary crown matrices. Silgimix has a working time of 1:15 and a setting time of 2:10 from the start of mixing. It is light-blue in color and has a mint scent. Silgimix is compatible with all dental gypsum materials. Impression pouring can be delayed up to 14 days without loss of accuracy. Silgimix is available in an eight pack of 50-ml auto-mix cartridges or a 380-ml cartridge for all impression material mixing machines with 10 mixing tips and one bayonet ring. Twenty-three consultants evaluated Silgimix taking 231 impressions. This product received a 92% clinical rating.
Product Features
The packaging is compact and clearly labeled. The availability of bulk packs for both types of delivery is convenient. Instructions are well-written and easy to read, having bold headings for each section. Because Silgimix does not require mixing in a bowl, there is less setup and cleanup. Silgimix produces a homogenous mix. The working and setting times are more consistent than alginates that involve variations of water temperature and powder-to-liquid ratio. The mint scent was well received by patients and consultants. Impressions are easy to remove from the mouth and exhibit very good detail. The quality of the poured models is very good. The recommended 30-minute wait to pour stone into Silgimix must be observed to prevent porosity in the poured models. The 14-day stability of the impression material allows the impressions to be poured multiple times or sent to a laboratory. Seventy-five percent of consultants found that Silgimix was equivalent to or better than their current product. Seventy-nine percent of the consultants would purchase and 85% would recommend Silgimix to a colleague.
Clinical Tips
- • Wait 30 minutes before pouring gypsum materials. Hydrogen gas released during the polymerization must be allowed to dissipate before pouring.
- Not intended for crown and bridge final impressions.
