FLUIDSHIELD Surgical N95 Respirator

FLUIDSHIELD Surgical N95 Respirator

Product Description

In recent issues and on social media, we have discussed how difficult it can be to find a correctly-fitting and comfortable respirator. FLUIDSHIELD Surgical N95 Respirators from Halyard are a uniquely shaped option for clinicians who are looking for something other than the typical cone shape. They are duckbill shaped, with two elastic straps that go behind the head to secure the respirator. They are NIOSH approved, ASTM Rated 3 for fluid resistance, and are available in two sizes: small and regular.

Initial Insights

  • This respirator seems to seal very well and fits faces that cone-style N95s don’t.
  • I find this respirator to be very easy to breathe in compared to others I’ve tried.
  • The pressure feels better distributed across the face as opposed to a cone mask, where the bridge of my nose gets sore.
  • The small is very small.

M7 Eva HVE Mirror

Product Description

As a clinician working alone, it can be hard to balance a mirror, suction, and tools. The M7 HVE Suction Mirror by Golden Dental combines mirror and suction in one tool. Each kit includes 5 mirrors. The mirror head has 20 suction holes, and the handle is lightweight and hollow. A unique 3-axis rotating connector holds it to the tubing, which is attached to the HVE valve with the included adapter. The kit also includes replacement mirrors and mirror caps to prevent scratching, as well as a tool to replace the mirrors. The M7 Eva HVE can be placed in an ultrasonic cleaner and is fully autoclavable.

Initial Insights

  • I like how lightweight they are, and the 3-axis piece makes it very mobile.
  • Replacing the mirrors is very easy.
  • These mirrors suction nicely, especially when retracting the cheeks and lips. It was a very natural transition from my usual use of a mirror and saliva ejector.
  • As a patient, I liked how thin and smooth it was; when it touched my teeth at all there wasn’t any clicking of metal or any sharp edges.

Cazoo Extraoral Aerosol Evacuator

Product Description

With concerns over COVID transmission in dental offices, there is a lot of focus on controlling aerosols. Cazoo Extraoral Aerosol Evacuator by SOTA Imaging is a uniquely-shaped reusable solution. It connects directly to HVE and rests on the patient’s lip. It does not need to be moved to access different quadrants of the mouth, and can be hooked to most cheek retractors. Cazoo’s geometric opening reportedly optimizes aerosol control by remaining closer to the working area without blocking the clinician’s view. At just $99 each, Cazoo is one of the more affordable options available.

Initial Insights

  • I love that it can be autoclaved.
  • My patient said she felt like it really did pull aerosols into it!
  • It’s not heavy at all, but I did have my patient hold it so it wouldn’t fall.
  • In my experience, most extraoral suction devices are loud; Cazoo is quieter than many and it’s very easy to hear over it.
  • Super easy to hook it up onto the HVE; fits perfectly.
