During appointments, instruments are often wiped off on 2×2 gauze pads or on the patient’s bib. All-Wipe™ Instrument Cleaner by AllPro Dental is a solution to possible pokes and inefficient wiping. It is a multi-grooved foam pad that adheres to the back of the hand, bib, tray, or other convenient locations. The clinician can wipe instruments through the grooves to remove debris rather than searching for a piece of gauze.
Strong adhesive tape on back of pad
Several deep grooves in the foam
Wipes off debris easily!
Initial Insights
It sticks really well to my glove!
I was surprised how well it cleaned my instruments; much easier than fighting with a loose piece of gauze.
I didn’t feel like there was any chance that I’d poke myself when wiping off an explorer.

We recently tried out the PRO-SYS® Hygiene Handpiece by Benco Dental. It is an air-driven handpiece that comes with three autoclavable nose cones. It has a smooth 360º swivel that allows for easy polishing at any angle. Speaking of angles, any disposable prophy angle will fit onto the PRO-SYS handpiece!
Cordless handpieces can fit into many hygiene settings, allowing for the user to move comfortably without interference of a cord. The Infinity Cordless Hygiene Handpiece by Young Dental is cordless, and claims to last up to 4 times longer on one battery charge than competitor models. This handpiece also includes a Bluetooth foot pedal to control speed, replacing the need to use a second hand to adjust. A small light on the front blinks to indicate the charge level when prompted. It also comes with three nose cones and a non-slip holder to keep it still on the counter, as well as 25 disposable barrier sleeves.
Freedom of movement without a cord
Polishing going smoothly!
Using Young Innovations’ Splatter Guard DPA
Initial Insights
This handpiece is amazingly quiet and lightweight!
It has a really small footprint on the counter – I can tuck it away easily.
I like having a foot pedal to control it instead of buttons on the handpiece that I have to reach for.
When I used the Young Splatter Guard DPA, it was incredibly smooth. I tried another DPA brand and it didn’t seat all the way on the handpiece.
I like that it doesn’t vibrate at all on my teeth!

Miracle Suction is part of a kit that was created to confront the problem of not having enough hands. The colorful mirrors attach directly to standard HVE handpieces and have small holes in the side and bottom surfaces of the head, designed to eliminate the need for separate mirror and suction. Each reflective surface is anti-fog and autoclavable for ease of use and cleaning.

Initial Insights
The colors might make it fun for kids especially.
It suctions very well, especially considering it has to be used as a mirror the entire time.
It could do with more sizes to connect with the HVE more accurately.
I found it easiest to use when I periodically dipped the mirror down to suction pools of saliva.

I have to admit, I am a bit of a mirror snob. We all have our pet peeves as practitioners and one of mine is poor quality mirrors. My assistants actually just kept a box of new mirror heads in each of my treatment rooms so that whenever I would start to whine they could do the quick change out! If you think about it though, visualization is critical in our profession. We spend thousands of dollars on loupes and headlights, yet a lot of us don’t think twice when our assistant hands us that size 4 mirror that is scratched and has that weird iridescent coating on it (you know… the one that only seems to come off with an alcohol wipe). It just gets to the point where many of us just accept that the mirror is the weak link in our visualization. Fortunately, Hu-Friedy is out to try and change that and make our mouth mirrors one of our best assets.
Here at the Dental Advisor we recently received the HD Black Line Mirrors (Hu-Friedy). According to the manufacturer these mirrors feature a DIAMOND LIKE CARBON (DLC) COATING that reduces glare by up to 80% and creates a distinct contrast between the instrument, the tooth and/or the surrounding tissue. They also feature superior brilliance and color for quicker and more accurate visibility of the mouth.
113% reflection factor for exceptional image clarity.
38.5% brighter than rhodium coated mirror glass.
50% brighter than other front surface mirror glass.

What were the Initial Insights of the Dental Advisor team? – The flat neck of these mirrors is a wonderful idea! Especially with the addition of the extra bend in the double-sided mirror aiding in retraction. – You wouldn’t think the black surface would make much of a difference but we found the lack of glare quite noticeable. – We want to see for ourselves how the scratch-resistant coating holds up during an evaluation period. – This is a very well thought out mirror with lot of details all designed to improve clinical outcomes. – In this initial use of the HD mirror, I felt like little details were noticeably more defined.
