Orabloc Needlestick Safety System

Orabloc Needlestick Safety System

Product Description

Needles pose a great danger if their caps are dropped or go missing, and even recapping can lead to needlesticks. Orabloc Needlestick Safety System from Pierrel Pharma is a hands free, counter-top needle recapper created to combat this problem. The needle is simply pushed into the opening, which caps it with a brightly-colored capsule. The now-capped needle is withdrawn, and a spring inside the system pushes the opening to the next capsule. Once the needle is removed from the syringe, the opposing end can also be capped. There are 100 protective capsules in each system.

Initial Insights

  • The caps stay right on the needle so they don’t fall off or get lost.
  • There’s a plastic coating that keeps the needle from going all the way through.
  • The color-coding is really nice to let you know when you’re running low on capsules.
  • I would love to see a smaller size footprint!

SafeSiders® HF

Product Description

Initial Insights

What were the thoughts of the Dental Advisor Initial Insights Team?

  • Truly an easy system with only 3 files.
  • Nice flexibility of the file, but not so flexible that it bends as soon as you try to place it in the canal.
  • Nice kit with matching gutta percha points.

What were the Initial Insights of the Dental Advisor team and our editorial board?
– You can use this material for just about anything pulpal!
– Mixes quickly and easily.
– Some of newer offices did not have a glass slab and had to order one.
– The droplets in the gel were a little bubbly, making for some inconsistency in mixes. Will offices find the same thing?
– Having to hand mix in an age of automix seems inconvenient, but it allows for the extreme versatility of this material… what will the evaluators think? We can’t wait to find out!

Visalys CemCore

There is a growing trend in the dental materials world, especially in cementation, and that trend is making products more versatile. We recently received Visalys CemCore (Kettenbach Dental) here at the Dental Advisor. Visalys CemCore is BOTH a dual-curing adhesive cement and core-buildup material. Talk about versatile… is this the future of dental materials?

What would this mean to your practice? It means you only need to stock one material for cementing posts, placing cores, and cementing your final restorations! According to the manufacturer this material will adhere to any substrate including :

  • Precious metal restorations (e.g. PFM, Gold)
  • Oxide ceramics (e.g. Lava, Procera, Bruxzir)
  • Silicate ceramics (e.g. Obsidian, IPS Empress, IPS e.max)
  • Hybrid ceramics (e.g. Lava Ultimate, VITA Enamic)
  • Composites (e.g. Camaflage Nanohybrid Composite)

This material is available in five shades: Bleach, Universal, Translucent, Dark, and Opaque (see images below). All shades have matching try-in pastes (see image below).

Visalys CemCore is an adhesive cement. This means there is a separate bonding step. This system includes a tooth primer as well as a restorative primer that uses their Active-Connect-Technology. Their primers are extremely easy to use, only requiring a 20 second rub and drying with air. No need to light cure.

What were the Initial Insights of the Dental Advisor team and our editorial board?
– Although etching is only absolutely indicated when cementing to enamel, can use any kind of etching technique with this product. Dr. Sabiha Bunek (CEO of Dental Advisor) was excited to hear this, as she prefers to total etch whenever possible.
– Some of our board members are self-admittedly, notorious “mix and matchers” with bonding agents. The chemistry in this product does not allow trading out the tooth primer, but provides the strong bond strengths. Will they love the tooth primer as well as their current bonding agents? We can’t wait to find out!
– We liked the shade selection.
– Thin mixing tip allows for precise placement.
– The editorial board was abuzz about the versatility of this product, and were all excited to take it back to their offices to evaluate!

Palatal Anesthesia Device

Administering palatal anesthesia is a necessary evil that I always dread. As you can imagine, working in public health means I have done a lot of maxillary extractions. Knowing I have to give that palatal anesthesia always makes the sweat start beading before we even get started. I want to make my patients comfortable, but my arsenal of tips and tricks for making palatal anesthesia less painful has never been very extensive or effective.

At Dental Advisor, we recently received the Palatal Anesthesia Device (Master Dental Inc.). This instrument uses the principle of applying pressure to the area, that we have all done with a mirror handle, but makes it more effective. According to the manufacturer the Palatal Anesthesia Device uses the principles of pressure anesthesia and the “gate control theory of pain” to alleviate the pain associated with a palatal injection. The stimulation of the surface tactile receptors by the instrument “opens the gate” of the pain-transmitting fibers and interrupts their transmission to the brain. Therefore, the pain associated with the initial needle penetration is greatly reduced.

What were the Initial Insights of the Dental Advisor team and our editorial board?
– Great idea!
– Takes a proven method for pain reduction and makes it more efficient.
– It takes very little pressure with this instrument to get the tissue to blanch.
– Not just a good instrument to have on hand for an office that does a lot of palatal anesthesia but maybe even better for the offices that do it rarely and have not perfected a technique for pain reduction during palatal anesthesia.
– We want to test this to see how effective it is… is it worth another instrument on my tray?

elements IC Obturation System

http://DentalAdvisor.comI took a hands-on endodontic course sponsored by Kavo/Kerr a couple of years ago. It was on my birthday so I made it my birthday gift to myself (yes, I am a dental nerd). They had the elements Free Obturation System at that course (the predecessor to this system). Mind you it was on plastic teeth, but I loved it! I could not convince the public health clinic I was working at the invest in one… instead they told me “we have a warm vertical condensation system somewhere around here”. Can you tell where this is going, LOL? The assistant who had been there the longest found it for me… it looked like something Dr. Frankenstein would have used to bring his monster to life. Cords everywhere, dials and levers… the instructions were 100% 1970’s! I never got that completely working so I stuck with lateral condensation during my years at the public health clinic. It was probably for the best… I was not trying to go for the mad scientist look in my operatory.

At the Dental Advisor, we recently recieved the elements IC Obturation System (Kavo/Kerr). According to the manufacturer the cordless elements™ IC Obturation System combines a Downpack heat source with a Backfill extruder. The Downpack device provides fast heating of the heat plugger with precisely controlled temperature and timing, making it suitable for single-motion downpack obturation of the apical portion of the root canal. Utilizing single-use gutta percha cartridges, the ergonomic Backfill device has a motorized extruder system for precise temperature and speed control for a 3-dimensional obturation of the root canal system. Both handpieces are charged using inductive charging technology.

What were the Initial Insights of the Dental Advisor team and our editorial board?
– This system incorporates small improvements on an already good system that make your endo procedure that much nicer.
– The cartridge level indicator is an amazing idea… everything should have level indicators, don’t you think?
– I liked that you can put the cartridge in at different positions so you can easily see the display.
– Odd that you cannot set these up on end. They are angled on the bottom where the inductive charger area is and so you have to lay them on their side if they are on your tray.
