MICROFLEX NEOSOFT Gloves

MICROFLEX NEOSOFT Gloves

Finding the right glove can be a challenge. At the end of the day you don’t want to feel like you have been wearing gloves all day. You don’t want dry skin and sore muscles from a constant pull. Here at Dental Advisor, we recently received MICROFLEX NEOSOFT gloves (Ansell). According to the manufacturer these gloves:

  • Feature HYDRASOFT™ Technology to rehydrate dry and cracked skin and improve overall skin condition
  • Soft material provides wearers exceptional comfort and ease of use
  • Neoprene formulation and textured fingers deliver a secure, reliable wet grip
  • Ultra-lightweight design for enhanced tactile sensitivity

What were the Initial Insights of the Dental Advisor team and our editorial board?
– Light weight material for good tactile feel. How will evaluators feel about the tactile feel once they are handling instruments?
– One board member who is recently retired commented that these felt much better and fit better than any gloves he had ever used while practicing.
– Long cuffs noticed immediately by Editorial Board members. Nice for good infection control.
– Editorial Board members felt like their hands were softer after taking these off; however, there was a slight odor.

ACTIVA Presto

It is an exciting time in the world of restorative materials. More and more we are seeing materials that mimic the properties of natural teeth as well as products that incorporate rechargeable remineralizing ions.  We recently received ACTIVA Presto (Pulpdent) here at Dental Advisor. This material is a  light cured, universal composite that facilitates diffusion of bioavailable calcium, phosphate, and fluoride ions. According to the manufacturer this material is a stackable, light cure composite that is strong, durable, wear and fracture resistant, and is indicated for all classes of cavities.

What are the advantages to incorporating this material into your practice?

  • Patented rubberized-resin absorbs stress and resists wear, fracture, and chipping, even in thin areas on bevel margins
  • Penetrates and integrates with tooth structure for margin-free adaptation to teeth
  • Stackable composite holds shape and does not slump for controlled placement
  • Strong, tough, durable, wear and fracture resistant
  • Versatile – Universal composite for all classes of cavities
  • A4 and A6 shades for cervical restorations, especially useful in older patients
  • Easy to place, easy to use 2mL syringes

What were the Initial Insights of the Dental Advisor team and our editorial board?
– We are excited to try an ACTIVA product that you can use in all cavity classes, including stress bearing class I and II restorations.
– Editorial Board members commented that they liked the syringe delivery system compared to the large ACTIVA gun. They found the material easy to extrude from the flowable syringe. Will it be as stackable as they say?
– Right now this material is only available in flowable form… what will our evaluators think of that?

RiseWell

More and more patients are looking for recommendations for natural products. Our patients ask us about a lot of products that, although most don’t seem like they would be harmful, they also don’t seem to have any benefits. As clinicians, we want to recommend products that will have as many additional benefits as possible, such as remineralization.

Here at the Dental Advisor, we recently received RiseWell natural oral healthcare products (RiseWell). These natural products were developed by Dentists and do not contain fluoride, parabens, artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, or SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate). Rather, they contain hydroxyapatitie and xylitol. According to the manufacturer:

  • Mineral Toothpaste:  is made with naturally-derived hydroxyapatite, a mineral that makes up 90% of our tooth enamel and has been shown in studies to strengthen and protect your teeth without fluoride.
  • Balancing Mouthwash: is made to work with your oral ecosystem. This naturally alkaline mouthwash inhibits the growth of bad bacteria and leaves your mouth feeling healthy and fresh.

What were the Initial Insights of the Dental Advisor team and our editorial board?
– Okay… we just have to say that the Cake Batter Flavored Toothpaste tastes amazing!
– We really like the texture of the “Scrubby Floss” could this be good for perio. patients?
– The toothpaste is more of a creamy consistency.
– We love that their company put hydroxyapatite research on their website.
– We read all the science behind their hydroxyapatite claims; however, we would love to see a study showing their particular product has hydroxyapatite uptake into enamel… a future DA lab project?

3M Filtek™ Supreme Flowable Restorative

The big stressors in our day are obvious…the crown that doesn’t seat and you need to take a new impression, the little root tip you just can’t get out and you have to send the patient over to the oral surgeon…yes, these lead to big headaches at the end of the day. What we don’t always think about is all of the little stressors that just build up throughout the day. When it comes to flowable composite these little things include:
• Bubbles in the material
• Control over precise placement
• Bending the tip to reach without kinking
• Running out of material mid-procedure when it appears there’s plenty left
• Waste as material oozes out of the syringe (which is caused by back pressure from bubbles in the syringe).

These little stressors add up to big headaches by the end of a busy day.

Here at the Dental Advisor, we recently received 3M™ Filtek™ Supreme Flowable Restorative (3M). According to the manufacturer, this material is their same great Filtek™ Supreme Ultra Flowable, now packaged with a new name and in a new unique dispenser. 3M’s Filtek™ Bulk Fill Flowable Restorative will also be available in this new delivery system.

Features include:
• Low viscosity
• 9 Shades offered that are designed to correspond with Filtek™ Supreme Ultra Universal Restorative and Filtek™ Universal Restorative
• Ergonomic design that is easy to hold and inject
• Excellent adaptation, polish retention, and wear resistance
• Lots of changes to the syringe design (see images below)

What were the Initial Insights of the Dental Advisor team and our editorial board?
– Many of our Editorial Board members are already using a 3M flowable product and are excited for this product.
– The little details put into this new design should help take away big headaches in our day, like bubbles and not quite being able to bend the cannula where you want for a precise placement of material.
– Assistants on our board love the big clearly marked shade label on the bottom of the syringe… no getting out your reading glasses to find the right shade!
– The viscosity seems a little high for sealants in some of the boards opinion, but likely ideal for a class III or class V… we cannot wait to see what the evaluators have to say!

Avalon Biomed NeoMTA 2

Talk about a product that can be a life-saver. This product is extremely versatile and can be used for both the routine procedures, such as a sealer for endo, or for your stressful procedures, such as repairing a perforation or covering a direct pulp exposure.

According to the manufacturer, this product is a tricalcium and dicalcium silicate root and pulp treatment material:

  • Powder & Gel system
  • Will not discolor from medicaments or exposure to light in primary or permanent teeth
  • Radiopaque
  • Bioactive bioceramic

Special features:

  • Easier to mix
  • 30% higher radiopacity
  • Bioactive bioceramic forms hydroxyapatite on its surface to support healing

What were the Initial Insights of the Dental Advisor team and our editorial board?
– You can use this material for just about anything pulpal!
– Mixes quickly and easily.
– Some of newer offices did not have a glass slab and had to order one.
– The droplets in the gel were a little bubbly, making for some inconsistency in mixes. Will offices find the same thing?
– Having to hand mix in an age of automix seems inconvenient, but it allows for the extreme versatility of this material… what will the evaluators think? We can’t wait to find out!

Visalys CemCore

There is a growing trend in the dental materials world, especially in cementation, and that trend is making products more versatile. We recently received Visalys CemCore (Kettenbach Dental) here at the Dental Advisor. Visalys CemCore is BOTH a dual-curing adhesive cement and core-buildup material. Talk about versatile… is this the future of dental materials?

What would this mean to your practice? It means you only need to stock one material for cementing posts, placing cores, and cementing your final restorations! According to the manufacturer this material will adhere to any substrate including :

  • Precious metal restorations (e.g. PFM, Gold)
  • Oxide ceramics (e.g. Lava, Procera, Bruxzir)
  • Silicate ceramics (e.g. Obsidian, IPS Empress, IPS e.max)
  • Hybrid ceramics (e.g. Lava Ultimate, VITA Enamic)
  • Composites (e.g. Camaflage Nanohybrid Composite)

This material is available in five shades: Bleach, Universal, Translucent, Dark, and Opaque (see images below). All shades have matching try-in pastes (see image below).

Visalys CemCore is an adhesive cement. This means there is a separate bonding step. This system includes a tooth primer as well as a restorative primer that uses their Active-Connect-Technology. Their primers are extremely easy to use, only requiring a 20 second rub and drying with air. No need to light cure.

What were the Initial Insights of the Dental Advisor team and our editorial board?
– Although etching is only absolutely indicated when cementing to enamel, can use any kind of etching technique with this product. Dr. Sabiha Bunek (CEO of Dental Advisor) was excited to hear this, as she prefers to total etch whenever possible.
– Some of our board members are self-admittedly, notorious “mix and matchers” with bonding agents. The chemistry in this product does not allow trading out the tooth primer, but provides the strong bond strengths. Will they love the tooth primer as well as their current bonding agents? We can’t wait to find out!
– We liked the shade selection.
– Thin mixing tip allows for precise placement.
– The editorial board was abuzz about the versatility of this product, and were all excited to take it back to their offices to evaluate!
