Grind Relief Pro

Grind Relief Pro

Product Description:

We recently received Grind Relief Pro. This is a moldable night guard indicated for clenching and grinding. What makes this night guard unique? It has a “Central Power Bar” designed to reduce clenching pressure. It can be fitted for either the maxillary or mandibular arch and can be remolded an unlimited number of times by reheating. Grind Relief Pro is sold exclusively to dental practices.

Initial Insights:

What were some of the thoughts of the Dental Advisor Initial Insights Team?

  • Very easy to mold to the patient’s dentition.
  • No impressions are needed. Patients would love this!
  • It is VERY pliable when first removed from the hot water, and it distorted; however, it was easy to mold back into the proper shape and fit onto the teeth.
  • Will this be comfortable for patients with a variety of occlusion classifications? Our patient’s premolars were not touching when her mandible was retruded. We are excited to evaluate more to find out!

Champ®

Product Description

Sealants are commonly delivered through a syringe, but this can sometimes create voids or excess material which requires adjustment. Champ® Pit & Fissure Sealant from Centrix is a single-unit sealant with a brush applicator. It is a bioactive, light-cured sealant, and it does not require a bonding agent. Instead, the clinician just needs to etch, rinse, apply, and cure. Champ also releases fluoride and phosphate over time.

Note: for those who prefer syringe delivery, Champ will be available in a syringe in July 2021.

Initial Insights

  • When I use flowable, I dispense it and then use a brush. This has it all in one place!
  • It would be interesting to see research on the fluoride and phosphate release over time; if it’s longer than other products, I would switch!
  • Please include etchant in the kit.

Composite Singles

Composite Singles

In my public health clinic, I did some extremely large composite restorations. You know those ones… they really need a crown but your only options are to attempt the world’s largest composite to hold onto it as long as possible or extraction. With this comes the challenge of finishing and polishing such a large restoration. It was not uncommon for my assistants to wander off as I was polishing because they knew my 4 or 5 part polishing regimen was going to take me a while to get the smoothness to the patient’s  tongue as well as the shine I was looking for. Coffee break time may be cut short now with this new polishing system!

Here at the Dental Advisor we recently received Composite Singles (Meisinger USA). According to the manufacturer these single-use polishers produce a brilliant luster on all composite materials with a unique new shape, the “squid” shape (see below). These polishers are a two-step system with a pre-polish and high shine.

What were the Initial Insights of the Dental Advisor team and our editorial board?
– Wonderful high shine!
– The pre-polisher will clear out any and all scratches in your composite, but you can wipe out your anatomy if you over-polish.
– The new squid shape is very unique and I found it nice around cusps especially… I can’t wait to see what the evaluators thought it was best used for!

Cerezen Jaw Pain Relief Device

I recently took a two-day course on occlusion. Most of the second day was dedicated to just TMJ disfunction and appliance therapy options! Flat plane splints, cuspid rise, anterior deprogrammers, soft splints… the list goes on and on. It’s enough to make your head spin. The one thing that all of these have in common is that most people do not want to wear them during the day, when just as much clenching and grinding is happening, if not more. Enter… Cerezen.

Here at the Dental Advisor we recently were contacted by the makers of Cerezen (Renew Health Ltd.). Cerezen is a facial and jaw pain device that you wear in your ears! Yes, you heard me right (pun intended), these custom made devices fit discretely into the ears and can be worn day and night.

When I first saw this device I thought it was somehow slightly separating the teeth by holding the jaw open from behind the condyle, but I could not have been more wrong. It actually utilizes biofeedback. Biofeedback has been effectively used for years in the pain management world. According to the manufacturer, When wearing the customized Cerezen device, the ear canal shape changes to that presented in an open jaw position. This then provides a subtle feedback to break the cycle of clenching and grinding and encourages your patient to relax their jaw.

What were the Initial Insights of the Dental Advisor team?
– Great concept!
– The fact that it can be worn day and night is a big plus. Studies have shown that daytime clenching and grinding can occur more and at greater masticatory strength than nighttime grinding.
– I know while I am trying to create that perfect class II contact I am clenching because my jaw hurts after the procedure, I think I need to try one!
– You have to wonder how comfortable these really are to wear all day.
