Duraflor® Ultra™ by Medicom® is a topical fluoride treatment for application to enamel and dentin. It helps treat hypersensitive teeth and prevent caries. The product claims to release fluoride over 2, 4, and 24-hour periods. Its smooth consistency and strong adherence to teeth helps maximize effectiveness and minimize ingestion.
This varnish does not contain gluten, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, sesame, corn, shellfish, eggs or dairy*. It is sweetened with xylitol and free of saccharin and aspartame. For patients with allergies who would benefit from a fluoride varnish, Duraflor® Ultra™ is an excellent option.
Knowing this varnish does not contain common allergens, as do some other fluoride varnishes, provides peace of mind to both patient and clinician. This product is available in 5 flavors; Mint, Caramel, Strawberry, Cherry, and Bubble Gum.
*NOTE: Caramel flavor contains milk butter acids.

Sometimes, it feels like one prophy paste is just like the next. When they’re mixed together in containers, it takes an extra step of reading the tiny print on the foil to see if it’s fine or coarse and what flavor it is. CleanJoy® by VOCO America, Inc. is specifically designed in a “traffic light” color coding system where red is always coarse, yellow is always medium, and green is always fine, so you know what you are grabbing. The instructions indicate to use the green finishing paste after using the red or yellow pastes. Its Fine Dual Filler Technology reportedly causes less of a sandy feeling while being as effective as traditional pastes. It contains fluoride and xylitol and is available in three flavors: mint, caramel, and cherry, each in the traffic light color coding system.
Initial Insights
The mint is very refreshing.
Even the coarse paste was minimally gritty; it didn’t “crunch” as much as others.
It has a very smooth texture, almost like frosting.
I really like the traffic-light color coding. It’s much easier than reading the tiny print on the foil.

Sealants are commonly delivered through a syringe, but this can sometimes create voids or excess material which requires adjustment. Champ® Pit & Fissure Sealant from Centrix is a single-unit sealant with a brush applicator. It is a bioactive, light-cured sealant, and it does not require a bonding agent. Instead, the clinician just needs to etch, rinse, apply, and cure. Champ also releases fluoride and phosphate over time.
Note: for those who prefer syringe delivery, Champ will be available in a syringe in July 2021.
Initial Insights
When I use flowable, I dispense it and then use a brush. This has it all in one place!
It would be interesting to see research on the fluoride and phosphate release over time; if it’s longer than other products, I would switch!
Please include etchant in the kit.

Needles pose a great danger if their caps are dropped or go missing, and even recapping can lead to needlesticks. Orabloc Needlestick Safety System from Pierrel Pharma is a hands free, counter-top needle recapper created to combat this problem. The needle is simply pushed into the opening, which caps it with a brightly-colored capsule. The now-capped needle is withdrawn, and a spring inside the system pushes the opening to the next capsule. Once the needle is removed from the syringe, the opposing end can also be capped. There are 100 protective capsules in each system.
A funnel guides the needle right to the capsules
It works well with short needles, too
Initial Insights
The caps stay right on the needle so they don’t fall off or get lost.
There’s a plastic coating that keeps the needle from going all the way through.
The color-coding is really nice to let you know when you’re running low on capsules.
I would love to see a smaller size footprint!

Cavex Bite&White ExSense Tooth Conditioner is a mint-flavored gel created to relieve tooth sensitivity not only after tooth whitening procedures, but for sensitivity in general. ExSense Tooth Conditioner may be used as an adjunct to a normal brushing routine. It can be applied with a brush or a finger to any sensitive areas or entire arches. After 10 minutes of contact time, simply expel excess gel and rinse with water.
Here at Dental Advisor, we found that it was easy to apply the gel not only to fingers, as the instructions recommend, but also to brushes and swabs, for those hoping to keep fingers away from the mouth!
